Job Purpose
Overseeing and optimizing end-to-end logistics operations, including warehousing, distribution, and transportation, while ensuring efficiency, cost control, and timely delivery. It involves managing inventory, coordinating stakeholders, and leading teams to maintain high performance and operational discipline.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and manage logistics operations, including warehousing, transportation, and customer service.
- Oversee dispatch, delivery coordination, and the full order cycle.
- Liaise and negotiate with suppliers, manufacturers, retailers, and customers.
- Monitor and optimize product flow through tracking, routing, costing, and data analysis.
- Take full responsibility for inland region distribution and ensure operational discipline.
- Provide direction, support, and supervision to teams, including training dispatch staff.
- Track performance metrics such as stock levels, delivery times, costs, quality, and efficiency.
- Manage CHEP account queries to minimize additional costs.
- Ensure warehouse security, inventory control, and accurate stock management.
- Resolve operational issues and customer complaints efficiently.
- Maintain compliance with company policies, safety standards, legal requirements, and FSSC 22000.
- Produce daily progress reports and communicate issues to management.
- Promote workplace safety, food safety, and quality standards while supporting continuous improvement.
Qualification Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric)
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management
Experience Requirements
- 5-6 years’ experience in a Food Manufacturing is essential.
- 5-8 years’ operational management experience.
- Transport planning experience.
Skills and Competencies
- Sound FMCG logistics experience, which should include warehouse and transport logistics.
- Proven working experience as a logistics manager, understand the special requirements for storing or transporting raw material and finished goods.
- Experience in export and would be advantageous.
- Willing to travel to customers with own car, with possible local travel.
- Record of successful distribution and logistics management.
- Demonstrable ability to lead and manage staff.
- Strong communication skills, verbal and written communication to direct employees and prepare reports for Senior Management.
- Proficient in standard logistics software.
- Excellent analytical, problem solving and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and handle multiple projects.
- Knowledge of Food Safety and HACCP principles.
