DURATION: 12 months contract (15 days per month)

POSITION TITLE: MNH Program Support Consultant

REPORTS TO: Senior Program Officer

POSITION SUMMARY:

To provide technical assistance, clinical mentorship, and program support for the effective implementation, monitoring, and improvement of maternal and newborn health services in target districts/facilities. The consultant will support healthcare workers to deliver high-quality, life-saving maternal and newborn care, with emphasis on Essential Newborn Care, management of postpartum haemorrhage, newborn resuscitation, supportive supervision, documentation, and quality improvement.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide technical guidance and structured mentorship services to strengthen the capacity of midwives, nurses, and other healthcare workers in Essential Newborn Care, including immediate care after birth, thermal protection/KMC, breastfeeding support, infection prevention, and identification of danger signs.
  • Provide advisory support to improve the prevention, early recognition, and management of postpartum haemorrhage through coaching, case review, skills reinforcement, and practical recommendations on AMTSL, uterotonic use, fluid management, and non-surgical emergency response.
  • Deliver technical mentorship and capacity-strengthening support on newborn resuscitation, including rapid assessment, bag-and-mask ventilation, and post-resuscitation care.
  • Conduct periodic advisory and supportive supervision visits to target facilities and submit written findings, action points, and recommended follow-up actions.
  • Provide documentation, data review, and reporting support to inform quality improvement actions and programme decision-making.
  • Support any other relevant tasks as requested by your supervisor.

ESSENTIAL:

  • Registered Nurse, Midwife, Clinical Officer, or related professional qualification.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in maternity, newborn, or paediatric care.
  • Demonstrable expertise in Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care, including BEmONC/CEmONC, PPH management, ENC, and newborn resuscitation/HBB.
  • Proven experience providing clinical mentorship, on-the-job training, supportive supervision, or coaching to healthcare workers.
  • Excellent facilitation, communication, documentation, and report-writing skills.
  • Fluency in English; knowledge of Krio or other local languages is an advantage.

  • Project HOPE employees work in the global health field and may be required to travel or work in countries where working conditions are classified as “hardship”.
