Job Description
This critical role focuses on the comprehensive planning and control of geotechnical and industrial projects to ensure all activities adhere strictly to defined scope, timelines, and budgets. The successful candidate will be integral in driving project execution excellence, delivering physical project plans, and supporting capital project portfolio management with strategic insights that promote business continuity and operational success.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and control the physical portfolio of projects under the Implementation Directorate, with particular focus on TSF (Tailings Storage Facility) and water supply initiatives.
- Develop, maintain, and update detailed project schedules, histograms, and physical and financial progress curves using accepted project management tools and methodologies.
- Monitor progress of engineering documents and contractor performance regularly. Identify potential deviations and promptly devise corrective actions to mitigate project risks.
- Conduct comprehensive weekly planning reviews alongside contractors and internal stakeholders to ensure alignment with project goals and milestones.
- Prepare detailed reports on project status, progress, and compliance to inform decision-making and ensure transparency across all levels of management.
- Coordinate and lead project monitoring meetings among various stakeholders to facilitate communication, collaboration, and timely resolution of issues.
- Manage project documentation rigorously, ensuring proper archiving of all deviations, changes, and lessons learned to support continuous improvement.
- Oversee procurement processes associated with project execution, ensuring that all corporate area contributions are delivered on time to maintain project momentum.
- Champion and disseminate best practices in project management across the team and other divisions to uphold standards of excellence.
- Foster strong collaborative relationships with both internal departments and external partners to guarantee successful project outcomes aligned with strategic objectives.
- Operate consistently in line with AngloGold Ashanti's business principles, code of ethics, and commitment to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) standards, promoting sustainability and responsible resource management.
Qualifications & Professional Certifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Production Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Postgraduate studies or an MBA is highly desirable to enhance strategic project management capabilities.
- Active CREA (Regional Council of Engineering and Agronomy) registration is required to legally practice.
- Advanced proficiency in English, both written and spoken, is essential to manage project communications effectively.
Experience & Skills
- Minimum of 5 to 8 years of hands-on experience in project planning and control, preferably within mining, geotechnical or industrial projects.
- Proficient knowledge of project management methodologies such as PMI (Project Management Institute) standards and Front End Loading (FEL) processes to ensure structured project delivery.
- Strong analytical skills coupled with excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities to proactively address project challenges.
- Intermediate level of English proficiency to support collaboration with international teams and stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to lead meetings and manage cross-functional teams effectively in dynamic environments.
- Experience with project management software and tools to provide accurate tracking and reporting on project progress.
