About the Opportunity and Responsibilities
The Senior Investment Officer will support the effective delivery of Inkomoko’s investment activities by providing oversight to Investment Associates, conducting and reviewing borrower due diligence, supporting credit decision-making, managing portfolio quality, strengthening client relationships, and ensuring effective use of lending systems and processes.
The role combines team leadership, credit analysis, portfolio management, client engagement, and operational oversight to ensure that investment activities are delivered effectively, responsibly, and in line with Inkomoko’s Credit Policy, applicable regulations, and organizational standards.
Key Responsibilities
MANAGEMENT – 20%
- Coordinate Investment Associates, set work plans, monitor performance, and maintain regular staff check-ins.
- Monitor key goals and develop practical strategies to achieve agreed targets in line with budget, policies, and organizational culture.
- Work with the Investment Manager and Head of Investment to plan and manage staffing, budget, and other resources required to deliver investment outcomes.
- Interpret and ensure compliance with applicable donor requirements, internal policies, laws, and regulations.
- Ensure staff under supervision comply with P&C policies, the Credit Policy, and other relevant organizational procedures, and support appropriate corrective action where required.
- Promote and reinforce organizational values and culture within the team.
- Represent the organization professionally in stakeholder and government meetings or events when delegated or in the absence of the Investment Manager.
- Act for the Investment Manager in their absence when assigned.
- Escalate significant portfolio trends, operational risks, performance concerns, and other material issues to management in a timely manner.
DUE DILIGENCE & CREDIT PREPARATION – 40%
- Respond to prospective borrower inquiries and support eligible clients through the investment application process.
- Present investment products to entrepreneurs and clearly explain eligibility requirements, repayment obligations, and the responsibilities associated with debt financing.
- Support access to investment products for SMEs, refugees, and host-community entrepreneurs.
- Conduct and/or review due diligence on prospective borrowers, including business visits, document verification, financial and credit analysis, and coordination with Investment Associates.
- Assess repayment capacity, investment purpose, credit history, collateral where applicable, and key business risks before making a recommendation.
- Ensure investment files are complete, accurate, and compliant with Credit Policy requirements before submission for approval.
- Communicate relevant analysis and documentation to the Investment Manager and Head of Investment and support preparation of credit reports and recommendations for Investment Committee review.
- Support appropriate client documentation, including entrepreneur photos, consent/photo waivers, and Kiva stories where applicable.
PORTFOLIO MANAGEMENT – 20%
- Provide excellent customer service through regular communication, correspondence, and client visits, while maintaining professional relationships with borrowers.
- Conduct and coordinate post-disbursement monitoring to confirm appropriate use of funds, business performance, and emerging repayment risks.
- Track borrower performance and communicate material changes in client status to relevant stakeholders.
- Actively participate in portfolio review meetings and contribute to actions aimed at maintaining portfolio quality.
- Maintain accurate tracking of borrower repayments, arrears, contact information, and agreed follow-up actions.
- Coordinate with Recovery, Finance, and other relevant teams on repayment follow-up, reconciliations, and resolution of portfolio issues.
- Engage relevant government authorities, legal/court actors, refugee and host-community stakeholders, and other parties when required for portfolio follow-up.
- Ensure lending activities comply with requirements from Kiva, BNR, RDB, CRB, and other applicable regulatory or funding partners.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of investment products, credit processes, portfolio standards, and relevant regulatory requirements.
LOAN MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS & OPERATIONS – 20%
- Maintain strong proficiency in loan management systems and related lending applications.
- Work with system providers and internal teams to improve system use, streamline lending processes, and strengthen accuracy, efficiency, and compliance.
- Support system configuration and process design to meet the operational needs of investment and related departments.
- Administer or support appropriate user access and security controls within loan management systems.
- Oversee accurate loan input/system boarding and verification procedures.
- Promote proper segregation of duties and maintain clear workflows across loan processing, disbursement, repayment, and closure stages.
- Advise management on opportunities to automate and improve key investment and lending processes.
- Oversee relevant loan operations, including payment posting, payoffs, balancing, and disbursement controls, as assigned.
- Ensure Investment Associates and other relevant staff receive timely communication on procedural and system changes.
- Participate in the review and improvement of operational systems and procedures to strengthen data quality, accuracy, and efficiency.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform other duties reasonably assigned by the supervisor in support of the Investment Department and organizational objectives.
- Maintain confidentiality, integrity, professionalism, and sound judgment when handling client, credit, and organizational information.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of investment processes, portfolio quality, client experience, and team performance.
- Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
